The Modest Men of Korea

Guys can be self-involved anywhere in the world but the shameless bragging I’ve witnessed among Korean men has been something of a treat. For the most part I hear these things from my students who do NOT hesitate to say things like “Teacher, I am so handsome” or express their confidence that I would rather marry them over their friend. Among actual Korean men there was once a guy in Seoul who spent the evening confirming with my friend that he was in fact “very good looking” and pointing out that he had money. (I’m really not trying to make generalizations here, these are just a few funny stories to usher in the main event. Bear with me.)

ANYWAY, I have an account on this great social networking site for language learners called livemocha. My profile indicates that I am living in Korea and attempting to learn the language. Occasionally I’ll get messages from people learning the same languages as me or learning English and teaching something I am interested in. I decided to check my messages today and found this gem.
