칠면조
My students are all convinced (to the point that they will argue with me about this) that turkeys and chickens are the same thing. Luckily there is always one smartie in each class who throws out the word for turkey in Korean and suddenly they all get it. One class, despite me explaining that they are bigger and they taste different and they are different animals, would not let it go and thought I was just confused about big chickens. Once I wrote this on the board, they suddenly understood. They can be so stubborn!!!
Anyway, HAPPY 칠면조 DAY! I will be spending this evening with other Daegu expats at a cafe that is serving up full Thanksgiving dinners. More info on that later!
This week I have been giving a Thanksgiving lesson to my second graders and it turns out that anything involving food/pictures of food not only holds their interest but makes them really really angry. “WHY TEACHER?!?!? I AM HUNGRY NO PICTURES TEACHER!!!” So unless you are offering food or it’s after lunch… be weary of food lessons! They were really interested in all of the t-day dishes though, and were completely grossed out when I explained how stuffing and gravy are prepared. It’s been a fun week!
